Everyday, over 1.2 billion people log onto Facebook. The social media site and app pulls in over $8.8 billion in advertising revenue every quarter and shows no signs of slowing down. For SMBs, the site holds a huge opportunity to reach prospective customers in one's own backyard. Below are several tips to help you maximize organic (free) posts. 1. Consider following the general guide: 60% utility (helpful info related to your brand), 30% promotional and 10% "fluff" (behind-the-scenes, people, etc.) 2. Remember, the post is read by individuals, not large groups. Write the post authentically and as if you're telling something to one friend who is a fan. 3. Post images primarily, and images without text on them. Close up product images are better received than large room photos. Facebook is more likely to include an image in organic posts in fans' news feeds over text only. 4. Invite existing contacts and employees to like your page. Also, one way to grow followers over time is to ask every employee to authentically share posts. 5. Social media is a conversation. Respond to both good and negative comments on your page. 6. Be concise. Posts with 80 characters or less have 27% higher engagement. 7. Optimize for all screen sizes. Remember the same post will be viewed on small smartphone screens along with large desktop monitors. 8. Tag other brands as appropriate. They may like and share your content too.

9. Schedule posts in advance, and on-the-go, during relevant times. Most people are using Facebook during the evening, however, allow your content to dictate when your post publishes. To learn more contact Michelle Strom with Strom Media at (253) 677-3113 or by email.
